Discovering the Spirit of the West: Greenway Leadership Corps Takes on the National Western Stock Show

This past Saturday, January 11th, high school students from across Denver came together with the Greenway Leadership Corps (GLC) for a day packed with excitement, exploration, and unforgettable memories at the National Western Stock Show—a Denver tradition that’s as vibrant and dynamic as the West itself.

Kicking Off an Adventure

The day started at Johnson Habitat Park, where 15 local high school students were excited and ready to experience one of the most iconic celebrations of Western heritage.

Immersed in the Magic of the Stock Show

From the moment they stepped into the Stock Show, the GLCers were transported into a lively world of Western culture, complete with exhibits, competitions, and performances that had everyone smiling ear to ear.

Here are just a few of the highlights that had everyone talking:
🐐 The Petting Zoo: A chance to meet (and fall in love with) adorable farm animals, sparking many “I need a pet goat!” conversations.
🐴 Western Performance Horse Showdown: An electrifying showcase of precision, partnership, and skill between riders and their majestic horses.
🐄 Miniature Hereford Junior Show: A glimpse into the hard work and dedication of young livestock handlers.
💃 Folkloric Mexican Dancers: A dazzling celebration of culture, rhythm, and artistry that left the audience cheering for more.

As they explored, students bonded over their shared awe and admiration for the Western spirit, making new friends and unforgettable memories along the way.

Building Leaders, One Experience at a Time

For many students, this was their first time attending the National Western Stock Show, and the experience was nothing short of transformative. Beyond the fun, the event offered a chance to step outside their comfort zones, connect with others, and learn about the rich traditions that shape the American West.

The Greenway Leadership Corps is dedicated to creating opportunities like these—accessible, meaningful, and empowering. By providing free admission, transportation, and a welcoming space, GLC ensures that every high schooler, no matter their background, can take part in experiences that inspire growth and leadership.

Looking to the Future

As the day wound down and students returned home, their smiles, laughter, and shared stories told the tale of a day well spent. It’s clear that this adventure left a lasting impression, sparking curiosity and confidence in everyone who attended.

The GLC is already gearing up for more exciting events, from outdoor adventures to cultural explorations. If you’re a high school student looking for your next big experience, the Greenway Leadership Corps is your gateway to connection, growth, and discovery.

Stay tuned for upcoming opportunities—you won’t want to miss what’s next!
