Last weekend, families joined SPREE staff at Bear Creek Park for a special free, family-friendly volunteer day—and the impact was inspiring!
We kicked things off with a morning trash pick-up, led by SPREE educators who shared tips on keeping our river and parks clean. Six families signed up ahead of time, and as the morning went on, even more people jumped in after seeing the clean-up in action. It was wonderful to watch our community come together spontaneously for a shared cause.
After the hard work of collecting litter, everyone gathered for crafts and fun activities celebrating the South Platte River. Kids got their hands dirty (in a good way!) creating some beautiful bird feeders and bubble wands and learning more about how small actions can make a big difference.
Between this event the high-school volunteer day that directly followed, we collected 16 bags of trash—a huge win for the health of our local parks and river.
Thank you to everyone who showed up, brought their families, and helped protect our outdoor spaces. Keep an eye out for our upcoming stewardship events, and join us in making a difference for our community and our river!
