To celebrate Fall, the Greenway Leadership Corps (GLC) journeyed to the Denver Botanic Gardens Chatfield Farms, where the air is fresh and pumpkins abound!

Chatfield Farms is a native plant refuge and working farm in Jefferson County. Last weekend, they had food trucks, a corn maize, and a whole lot of pumpkins. We spent the day enjoying the perfect fall weather, colorful leaves, and beautiful views.
To our delight, the Nature Center brought a few awesome Colorado birds! We learned about their hawk, owl, and eagle, and posed as birds ourselves.

We tested our leadership and problem solving skills in the corn maize. Everyone took turns leading the way through the twist and turns, and in the end we succeeded! Then we headed to the pumpkin patch to select the perfect pumpkins. Finally, we returned to SPREE headquarters at Johnson Habitat Park to carve those pumpkins into spooky (or cute!) jack-o-lanterns.This free event was open to all high schoolers, with transportation, tickets, pumpkins, and snacks all provided. The students walked away with fresh air in their lungs, knowledge about the incredible work that Chatfield Farms does, lots of shared laughs, and some lovely jack-o-lanterns! Stay tuned for more GLC events every month.
