The Greenway Leadership Corps River Rangers took a special team trip to the zoo. The River Rangers have just begun their internship, where they will get practical environmental education and leadership experience. This trip to the zoo was an opportunity for the team to connect before the internship continues in the Spring. I am looking forward to seeing them all shine as leaders, educators, and environmentalists.
We enjoyed the crisp winter air, warm sun, and fresh snow on the ground. We entered the zoo with breakfast in our bellies and snacks in our pockets provided for us for free by the Greenway Foundation. The cold weather allowed us to enjoy a mostly empty zoo, and we still got to see many different animals. We saw towering giraffes, an elephant getting a pedicure, three tiny otters, a little fishing cat, a gigantic turtle, and much more! Navigating the zoo even allowed us to practice our map reading skills. It was great to see all of the work that the Denver Zoo does to help protect species and promote biodiversity in Colorado and around the world.

Special thanks to My Outdoor Colorado for giving us the opportunity to do this trip by providing us with zoo tickets for all of our River Rangers. Enjoy your December, and we’ll see you all in the New Year!
