This past weekend, the SPREE (South Platte River Environmental Education) team hosted an exciting Family Cookout at Johnson Habitat Park! It was a special evening for families from the Westwood and Cole neighborhoods, who joined us as part of the My Outdoor Colorado coalition. Together, we enjoyed an evening filled with fun, games, and, of course, great food alongside our amazing SPREE educators.

The event featured a variety of engaging activities- everything from volleyball and scavenger hunts to creative coloring sessions. The highlight for many was Critter Crawl in the South Platte River, where families had the chance to get up close and personal with the local wildlife, including our favorite- crawdads! It was incredible to see so many families excited to dive into these activities, strengthen connections, and celebrate the joys of being outdoors.

As the evening unfolded, we gathered around a cozy fire pit at Johnson Habitat Park to roast hot dogs and marshmallows, creating the perfect setting for relaxation and bonding. Watching families laugh, share stories, and enjoy the evening was the highlight of the evening.

A big thank you to everyone who came out to make the event such a memorable experience!
