Summer Fun!

There is no better way to beat the summer heat than to get out on the water! This weekend, the Greenway Leadership Corps went kayaking and stand up paddle boarding on Berkeley Lake. Denver Parks and Recreation equipped us with all of the gear (and instruction) we needed to have an awesome day paddling around on the lake.

We enjoyed a lot of peaceful moments floating on the water, broken up by the occasional splash flight. Everyone who tried paddle boarding even stood up on their paddle board! We enjoyed a lovely lunch in the shade to take a break and hydrate before heading back out onto the water. Lunch was provided to all participants for free by the Greenway Foundation!

After our time at the lake, we returned to Johnson Habitat Park for a community campout with My Outdoor Colorado (MOC). Our GLC participants set up their tents and helped everyone get settled. The evening continued with everyone having dinner and s’mores, playing yard games, and even spending some time on the playground together. One person even found a snake! Everyone settled in for a night outside in the fresh air. In the morning, we all enjoyed a great breakfast.

Thank you to MOC for providing gear and food for everyone! This event of kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, and camping was FREE. Keep an eye out for similar free outdoor activities for high schoolers, no experience or gear required!
