Families from the Westwood and Cole neighborhoods joined us at SPREE HQ this past Saturday for a sunny afternoon, a cozy night of camping, and lots of good vibes. Around 25 community members came out to Johnson Habitat Park to hang out, play, eat, and sleep under the stars.

Everyone showed up in the afternoon and got hooked up with camping gear – tents, sleeping bags, pads, and headlamps, all provided for free by the awesome Westwood Gear Library (shoutout to Denver Parks & Rec!). We helped folks set up their tents, then it was game time. We ran around outside, splashed in the river looking for crawdads, and played in the park until it got dark. Volleyball definitely stole the show this year.

Dinner was fire-cooked hot dogs (literally, over a fire), followed by the world’s most important camping snack: s’mores. After eating, we headed back to the river for one last crawdad hunt and then hung out under the stars until everyone was ready to crash.
The next morning, we packed up our stuff and munched on bagels, fruit, and yogurt before heading out. It was a super fun time with both familiar faces and new ones. We can’t wait to do it all again next year!
