The SPREE Force Gets New Agents!

This week at summer camp, we embarked on exciting missions each day to explore the fascinating world of critters living in and around the South Platte River. With our guide, Agent Chompers, we uncovered the secrets of these amazing creatures and learned how to protect their habitat. Here’s a recap of our week of adventures!

On Monday, we kicked off our week by exploring the tiniest inhabitants of the South Platte River. Campers used magnifying glasses and microscopes to spot microscopic creatures like plankton and water fleas. These small but mighty critters play a crucial role in the river’s ecosystem. It was fascinating to see how much life exists in just a drop of water!

Tuesday saw us zooming out to discover slightly larger critters. We met the SPREE Force Team, including Crusher, a helpful crayfish, and learned about the troublesome Trash Monster. Special guests from DOTI and their Vac Truck joined us to discuss pollution and its impact on wildlife. Campers then brainstormed creative ways to tackle the Trash Monster and keep our river clean. It was a day of learning and problem-solving!

Wednesday brought us face-to-face with mid-sized critters that live around the South Platte River. We learned about frogs, turtles, and fish, and how they contribute to the local ecosystem. Campers enjoyed a scavenger hunt to find these creatures in their natural habitat and discovered the important roles they play in maintaining a balanced environment.

On Thursday, our campers transformed into expert mammal trackers. We investigated tracks, scat, and teeth marks to identify the mammals living along the river. It was an exciting day of detective work as we pieced together clues to uncover the identities of these elusive creatures. From raccoons to beavers, we discovered the diverse mammal life along the riverbanks.

Our week wrapped up on Friday with a fun-filled field day! Campers put their newfound knowledge to the test with a series of animal-themed games and activities. From relay races to trivia challenges, everyone had a blast celebrating their accomplishments and the incredible world of critters we explored throughout the week.

This week at camp was an amazing journey through the ecosystems of the South Platte River. Our Special Agents learned about the importance of every creature, big and small, and how they can help protect our environment. We hope these experiences inspire them to continue exploring and caring for nature. Until next time, keep adventuring, Special Agents!
