GLO HISTORY
BECOME AN AMBASSADOR
Youth Ambassadors are Changing Communities
At Grassroots Leadership Opportunities (GLO), we share a firm belief that youth have the capability to connect to their communities in ways no one else can. We strive to provide opportunities for local youth to prove us right. As a youth advocacy group in partnership with TGF, we form the bridge for Youth Ambassadors to work on real-time public works projects in their area, learning from design professionals on how to lead community outreach efforts. Through our program, dedicated teens work with their local communities to make a difference, and in doing so, gain valuable professional work experience.
What do we do?
We build teams of visionary and driven youth and teach them how to connect to their own communities so they can represent their needs and produce sustainable improvements.
From parks in Five Points, Denver to creeks in Aurora, the GLO Ambassadors Program has built successful community outreach groups, composed exclusively of local youth leaders. Now in partnership with The Greenway Foundation, we continue to spread our successes through new design projects throughout Colorado, each of which brings another group of youth to the forefront of their community. Our efforts educate and link the community to the renovations near them, providing a voice to the voiceless and encouraging individual growth, accountability, and passion-driven initiative.
Authentic Community Representation
A community’s history and culture matter, as do its members. We are working to establish greater respect for each community’s values by inviting youth representation to the table.
At GLO, we recognize that equality and equity are rarely the same. While professional designers are experts at project formation and establishment, they can’t feign the inner voices of a community. Each community has unique needs and thus requires its own representation. By inviting local youth to navigate the public outreach on their community projects, we guarantee the “public” in “public works projects”, and construct improvements that are meaningful and relevant to each community.
Our journey is just beginning as we invest in communities and their youth!
