Preschool SPREE Field Trip

SPREE Preschool (ECE) Students on a field trip in Johnson Habitat Park hold crafty binoculars to their faces to focus on river ecology.

Sights, Sounds, & Smells of Nature

Experience the Sights, Sounds and Smells of Nature with SPREE. The Preschool (ECE) field trip serves as an introduction to SPREE, the South Platte River, and the outdoors. Students will become nature explorers, scientists, and detectives as they use their senses to experience the environment around them. Hands-on investigation allows students to touch, hear, smell, and see the different components of nature.

Time Schedule

The time schedule for our ECE trip is flexible. We can tailor the excursion to fit your class schedule. The minimum program time is one hour. The standard start time is 9:30 am and runs until 12:00 pm.

What to Bring

Students and adults should be prepared to be outside in any type of weather.

Everyone should pack:

  • water bottle
  • sack lunch
  • sun screen
  • hat
  • layers of clothing to be prepared for changes in the weather

Teachers should also bring a first aid kit, extra food, a cell phone, and one adult chaperone for every five students.

What to Expect

SPREE instructors will provide all instruction and all materials needed for the excursion. Adults and students will stay together in one large group.

What SPREE Expects From You

Teachers and chaperones are expected to model appropriate behavior for students at all times including: listening politely to SPREE instructors while they are presenting information, staying to the right side of the trail when appropriate, and being excited about and engaged in all SPREE activities.  Adults are also expected to help monitor student behavior throughout the day.

Field Trip Feedback

Due to our student population at the school, students often do not gain experiences like this one and we are very grateful for the opportunity. Thank you so much!
