Leaders In Training

Pass Down Knowledge, Build Up Leadership

SPREE’s Leaders in Training (LIT) program is for middle-school-aged former campers who have aged out of our camp program, but want to stay involved. We take their previous experience and current interest in the environment and give them leadership opportunities in our camp programs. LITs assist teachers, teach lessons, and are buddies to younger campers. LIT opportunities are available both for SPREE Summer Camp and SPREE School Break Camps.

LIT Responsibilities

Leaders in Training will be assistants to SPREE teachers. Their responsibilities include:

  • Leading by example with enthusiasm
  • Monitoring  free-time activities
  • Assisting teachers during lessons
  • Planning and leading theme and dress up days
  • Being a buddy to younger campers

LIT Requirements

  • Have attended past SPREE Day Camps
  • Positive and hard-working attitude
  • Desire to work with and assist teachers
  • Desire to help and buddy with younger camp attendees
  • Currently in 6th-9th grade (for School Break Camp)
  • Entering 6th-9th grade (for Summer Camp)
  • Attend selected days of camp from at least 9:30 am-  3:00 pm.

Sample LIT Camp Day Schedule

The schedule for LITs is the same for all SPREE Camps, but the adventure changes every day.

  • 8:00 am – 9:00 pm Flexible drop-off time, free explore and craft time
  • 9:00 am – 2:30 pm Planned activities.  LITs are “on duty,” assisting teachers and campers
  • 2:30 pm – 5:00 pm Flexible pick-up time, free explore, and craft time
  • 3:30-5:00 requires an additional After Care fee

If you have a middle schooler who still wants to be involved with SPREE, sign up to be a LIT at our School Break Camp programs or apply for our competitive Summer Camp LIT program.  All applications are reviewed and approved by SPREE staff.
