Camp Week 7: Nature is Calling

rock stacks at the river_week7

Monday

On Monday we got the week started by playing name games where we learned the names of our fellow campers and what they are grateful for. This week we will focus on being in nature and aware of our surroundings. We hopped right into this by doing some basic yoga, meditation, and going on a nature walk to be aware of ourselves and our surroundings.

Tuesday

On Tuesday we were greeted by our special guest who guided us through a yoga class and meditation session. We continued to go with the flow for the rest of the day by dancing our emotions out to some instrumental tunes and making drawings of some nature scenes. And of course we all had fun at critter crawl too where we took a moment to stop and notice all of the ways the critters moved around us.

Wednesday

On Wednesday we noticed how all of our senses can pick up on different parts of the park around us. We looked at pretty flowers, and the direction of the flow of the river. We felt the cool water on our hands and feet. We heard the wind sing through the windchimes that we made. And smelled some of the scents from flowers in our park. Unfortunately, we only got to taste what we had for lunch and no other natural items.

Thursday

On Thursday we had a quieter field day that started with a whole group land and water critter crawl where we looked at our normal routine and critter in a new way. After we split up into groups to look at trees and the ground from a new perspective and explore rocks in a light. By the end of the day all the campers were pointing new things out in our park that we had never noticed before.

Friday

On Friday before graduation we traversed the park in search of beautiful natural items to fill our “stained glass” windows and created a natural mandala out of rocks and other found materials. Then at critter crawl we stacked river rocks to make cairns and destroyed them to make sure we left the beach as we found it. Lastly, at graduation we all came together to compliment each other on the great week we had and all the things we learned about nature and ourselves.
