SPREE’s Fall Holiday Camps are underway, getting kids to the South Platte River on their days off from school. In October, SPREE held two days of programming at Johnson-Habitat Park with the focus on nocturnal animals. Campers made skunk masks and completed an obstacle course. The weather was great so we also had fun catching critters in the River while learning about the sensory adaptations raccoons have for doing the same thing at night. Junior River Ranger Zach helped campers catch 27 crawdads in one afternoon critter crawl!
November saw a full day of camp focused on SPREE’s favorite animal- the beaver. We did a quest around the park, stopping to learn about the beaver’s amazing adaptations along the way. And of course we made some beaver dams ourselves! Campers made puppets, designed a stage and rehearsed lines with the day ending with a performance about beavers.
Interested in attending Holiday Camp? We still have a few spots left for November 21-22: Cats & Canines of Colorado. You can also sign up for our winter and spring 2017 dates.
