Families from the Westwood and Cole neighborhoods in Denver came out to SPREE HQ on Saturday for an evening cookout next to the South Platte River. We had 31 folks come to enjoy Johnson Habitat Park with us and the My Outdoor Colorado coalition (MOC).
As families filtered into the park, we played music and games, and explored the park with a scavenger hunt. After everyone arrived, we had an opening ice breaker with Brooke from MOC where we answered ice breaker questions to get to know everyone. We then headed down to the River to see what we could find at Critter Crawl. After a lesson on crawdad catching, some folks even caught their first crawdad!
After a fun time exploring the river, we gathered by the fire to cook some hot dogs and grilled cheese! Of course we left room for some smores after dinner! After dinner, families continued to relax outside, play lawn games, and enjoy the river as the sun set over Johnson Habitat Park.
