SPREE’s Adventures Outside Day Camp Program held two camps in February. In the first camp, we solved the mystery of who Roxy Raccoon saw in the River. Along the way, we learned about the similarities and differences between beavers, muskrats, and river otters. We dressed up like a muskrat to learn about their adaptations, played river otter tag, and learned the anatomy of a beaver. Campers found clues to the mystery animal, including tracks, scat, and a funny smell! We closed the day by writing letters to Roxy informing her about muskrats.
In our second camp, we explored the world of birds. We went on a birding hike along the river, made bird masks and nests, and learned about the perils of migration through an obstacle course. With a beautiful day, we even had time to think about the food sources birds might use from the River and learn about them during a critter crawl.
