GLC Spring Stewardship Day 2023

This year we got so lucky with great weather for our stewardship day! we focused on cleaning in both johnson habitat park and Vanderbilt park! These two parks are highly affected by trash due to them being next a a highway. They are also not frequented as much as other parks so getting to them this weekend was a big goal for us. Before getting down to business we wanted to create a sense of safety in the group we had. We had a name game where we all shared our favorite thing to do outside. Creating a postive connection to the outdoors helped us care about the parks we were in as well.

We then went off to pick up some trash. We tried to focus not only on the big trash but also the micro trash that tends to eventually find its way into our river. In total we picked up 13 large trash bags in less than 2 hours. It is so much fun seeing youth care enough to not want to stop picking up trash! We made a great impact in both of our parks in such little time. If you are looking for an opportunity to do the same look forward to our fall stewardship day in September.
