At SPREE’s first Fall School Break Camp, the learning did not stop! Our mission of the day was to discover the similarities and differences between the microscopic and macroscopic worlds around us and in the River. We kicked off with a Critter Crawl down at the River to see what macroinvertebrates we could find. After finding all sorts of macroscopic organisms, like diving beetles, scuds, and insect larvae, we played some fun macro-themed games outside. Finally we all came together to use the cool microscopes Denver Parks and Rec lent to SPREE to deep dive into the invisible world of microorganisms in our river and pond waters! We saw lots of algae and tiny plankton swimming around in our water samples. Our discoveries, big and small, lead to new friendships and appreciation for our river!
