Trout in the Classroom is a program run by Trout Unlimited. In a normal year, fish eggs are shipped to different classrooms, in which tanks are set up and students learn by hatching and growing the fish. The fish are then released into waterways when they are almost done growing. This is an education program, not really a stocking program, as the quantity of fish that are released is fairly low overall.
This year, Denver Trout Unlimited (DTU) and The Greenway Foundation (TGF) have partnered together to establish an internship for a high school student so the elementary school classes can still have access to the learning experience without having the restriction of needing to be in the classroom every day, which is hard to guarantee with the realities of Covid. |

My current job is working at cityWILD as a Community Organizer/Community Connector is fun and rewarding. My position, under My Outdoor Colorado, is administered by cityWILD. In fact, they even got me up in the mountains with ski boots, looking like I belonged there. I serve on a Committee “Eastside Unified”, Neighbors Together, as a volunteer. My work is all about inclusion, getting neighborhood residents connected to resources at cityWILD that will get them outdoors. Hiking, River Rafting, walking, swimming – just enjoying the great Colorado outdoors is our goal.
Prior to cityWILD, I had the same type of position at Groundwork Denver, except the fun concentrated for the most part in Mestizo Curtis Park. There we had Zumba classes, walking groups, Yoga classes, you name it – all in the Park. Jumping around a little, with the Pandemic being so violent and disruptive to the lives of us all, my work is mostly now at my church, Jordan Chapel A.M.E. And, what a work. From the Food Bank to hot meals weekly. My most intense and dedicated work is that of assisting in getting people of color vaccinated for the COVID/19 virus. |

Jordan Chapel, in partnership with UC Health, Shorter Community Church and Campbell, is nearing its fourth campaign to get folks vaccinated. In fact, my Sister in Christ, Geraldine Sproling and I are responsible for directing 350+ people to get vaccinated. We will continue this effort as long as there is a need. Our motivation is “too many African Americans are dying” from this dreaded disease. We have found that one severe problem is connecting the people to the resources. Many people do not know where to go to get the shots. Many are not able to connect due to age or physical condition. My partner, Sister Geraldine, is a working machine. So, we are getting it done with the complete cooperation and support of the church. We have both had our shots. It is our hope that anyone who receives the vaccination should be responsible to tell others so that this can be a community effort to get the community safe and healthy.
