A huge thank you to CSU Spur for allowing SPREE to hold our Art on the River event on a Second Saturday at their CSU Spur Facility. We had so much fun being able to work on crafts with everyone who visited us. The crafts turned out great and we had over 150 participants show up! Thank you to everyone who took the time to get artsy by the river with us.
We had different river inspired art projects set up for visitors to participate in. We also took part in Project Angel Heart and were lucky to be able to decorate almost 20 bags! Our first art project was a station to make either butterflies or flowers out of coffee filters. The filters are colored on and then sprayed with water. Once the coffee filter is sprayed and dried, a pipe cleaner is used to fold and connect the coffee filters to make the final product.
Our second station was an area where visitors were able to make a nature journal. The journal was made using 3-5 brown paper bags, hole punchers, and string. The nature journals created a great project to take with you on hikes or any outdoor adventures. This project can continue to be used overtime to create an amazing journal filled with nature! Right next to this project, we also had a table where you could use some of our stamps, many we made ourselves out of recycled materials. There were a variety of different options for the stamps that were connected to plants, animals, and shapes you may see by the South Platte River. The stamps were a great addition to decorate nature journals and also to decorate Mother’s Day cards! The stamps were also a great material for decorating the bags for Project Angel Heart! We loved being able to see all of the creative ideas people added to the bags, cards, and journals!
Our final station at Art on the River was a collaborative art project that featured all of the important areas in which the river runs through. It was participants’ job to add in what surrounds the river as well. The final result turned out awesome!
