Meet Our New Interns

PictureLily at a GLC event last year

We are excited to announce that The Greenway Foundation is starting a new internship program with Denver School of Innovation and Sustainable Design (DSISD)!
This pilot internship will be run in conjunction with Denver Public Works and will introduce our two high school interns to environmental education, non-profit management, and public outreach, plus so much more! The internship will run throughout the spring semester and the students will be participating for credit through DSISD’s career exploration internship opportunities. Learn about our two new interns below!

What’s your name and how old are you?
I’m Lily and I’m 17.

What’s you favorite school subject?
My
favorite subject at school is Biology.

What is your favorite thing about nature/being outdoors?
My favorite thing about being outdoors is the ability to explore everything and learn new things about the environment. Going outside also helps me clear my mind from the everyday stress of school and let me be able to relax while I go on a hike or climb.

What is your favorite place in Denver?
My favorite place in Denver is the park by my apartment. It is a marsh that holds lots of wildlife and you get to see all the different types of birds that live in the marsh in the summertime.

What do you hope to gain from your experience as an intern with TGF?
I hope to gain more knowledge of the environment and how it is being impacted by pollution and what we could do to reduce pollution and help take care of our environment. I also want to learn what it is like to work at a non-profit and what opportunities this can give me for my future.

What’s your name and how old are you?
I’m Rosie and I’m 16 years old.

What’s you favorite school subject?
My
favorite subject at school is Math.

What is your favorite thing about nature/being outdoors?
You get a sense of freedom, you don’t feel contained. No boundaries to exploring nature.

What is your favorite place in Denver?
Downtown, 16th street mall. There’s a lot of diversity downtown and you can experience things downtown you usually couldn’t experience at home.

What do you hope to gain from your experience as an intern with TGF?

I hope to learn more about the environment and how I can make it better. Also learn how to get people involved so we can make the environment better.

What a great idea, introducing students to the work that utilities do on behalf of the environment and public health. Is there an opportunity to maybe expand this program to other utilities?
