Canada Geese Along the South Platte River

The Trinidad Purgatoire Visioning Project (Completed)

Have you heard of Fishers Peak State Park? Created in 2020, it’s Colorado’s newest state park and our 2nd largest. Just south of Trinidad, the county seat of Las Animas County, this new state park has sparked an economic resurgence and an opportunity to promote all that Trinidad has to offer as an outdoor recreation destination.

The Purgatoire River flows through the heart of the city of Trinidad, and the city has big plans for restoring the riverfront and creating greater access for the community. The Greenway Foundation responded to the city’s RFP and was awarded the opportunity to start the visioning process  for The Purgatoire River Vision Plan (PRVP). Greenway, along with partners, has engaged the community in several public meetings to learn what it is the people of Trinidad and Las Animas County would like to see for the river. After completing this phase, the work will begin to find the resources to bring the vision to life.
